See "The Brass Book" by Peter, Nancy and Herbert Schiffer c1978 page 117 to see similar boxes with this shape and design. This box measures 10 and one half inches wide by 5 and one half inches deep and 3 and one half inches high. This early solid brass box has an old repair on its base which we show in the pictures provided. We believe the repair was made when the box was first cast because it is hand forged into the base. Sometimes the molds would break or the metal would be to thin in an area. There also is a very small round solder repair to a tiny hole in the lid.The box is almost an eighth inch thick. Weighs 4.8 lbs.
